Aligned Assets has announced a new contract with Transport for London (TfL), who will use Symphony Gazetteer to produce and maintain TfL's Pan-London Street Gazetteer. This information will be at the centre of TfL's transport management strategy providing a street gazetteer fit for the effective coordination of street works to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
TfL recently won the Highway Authority of the Year Award for the improvements it has made in line with the 2004 Traffic Management Act. The Network Performance Team at TfL is now engaged in a major upgrade of its 'LondonWorks' system. 'LondonWorks' is a web mapping application used by a team of traffic managers and coordinators to manage 'ETON' (Electronic Transfer of Notice) street works notices. These notices are generated from within TfL, the London Boroughs, Utilities and other organisations needing to carry out street works within the capital. The effective management of permits to work in the road ensures co-ordination of works by all agencies and fulfils TfL's 'Network Management Duty' to speed up traffic flow.
This project will start by taking National Street Gazetteer (NSG) and Associated Street Data (ASD) from London's 33 Boroughs, with Symphony Gazetteer used to create a single clean and accurate representation of the capital's street and road networks. Radius Topology software from Laser-Scan is also used to ensure that mapping accessed by the 'LondonWorks' system is positionally accurate. The system will be accessible for use by Network Rail and the Highways Agency.
