The 21st June 2004 witnessed the release of a groundbreaking website by the Rochdale Interagency Information Group. Stats and Maps provides an innovative means of accessing and sharing statistics and information for the Borough, setting new benchmarks in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as the backbone to Intranet and Internet mapping services.
This web application brings together a wide range of information in a user-friendly format, resulting in a revolutionary "neighbourhood statistics" website. Stats and Maps offers the user instant access to a wide range of social, health, crime and education statistics and information about services and is available to anyone via the Internet. The site allows the public, voluntary groups, public sector organisations and local businesses unprecedented access to information enabling them to research local areas, prepare funding bids, plan services and develop neighbourhood profiles.
Andy Zuntz, Executive Director, Rochdale MBC and Project Director for the Stats and Maps project, described the project as: "A great example of public and voluntary organisations working together, Stats and Maps provide a single point of contact for an array of data about the Borough, which up until now has been hidden away in different organisations and departments. It uses leading-edge technology but has a simple and easy to use interface."
The development of the website is part of a larger project, being run in conjunction with the Information and e-Government Service of Rochdale MBC, which has the further aim of putting the Council's GIS system onto both the Intranet and Internet.
The contract was awarded to Aligned Assets, a MapInfo premier partner, by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) and the Rochdale Interagency Information Group that comprises of partner agencies from the Rochdale Local Strategic Partnership.
