Aligned Assets has announced BS7666 Accreditation for its Symphony Gazetteer Management System. The system, which is now in use with over 30 local authorities for the day-to-day management of address and property information, lies at the heart of their e-government initiatives for the improved delivery of public services.
BS7666 is the British Standard for the geographical referencing of every property and street in the country, covering Local Authority Land and Property Gazetteers, the National Land and Property Gazetteer and the recently announced NSAI (National Spatial Address Infrastructure). These BS7666 gazetteers enable everyone and every system ‘to speak the same language’ when referring to land and property. The purpose of the standard is to eliminate confusion about naming, addresses and boundaries and other land and property definitions to enable better interchange of data between departments.
So called ‘joined up government’ is at the heart of the priority outcomes for local e-government set by the ODPM (Office of the Deputy Prime Minster). It’s goal is to enable every citizen in England to electronically access all Council services even outside standard working hours and achieve everything from submitting a planning application online to checking a Council Tax balance.
BS7666 accreditation takes the form of compliance testing and validates the data held and produced by the Symphony Gazetteer and the ability of the database to support the production of BS7666 data used by all systems.
