Bath & North East Somerset Council Commit to Aligned Assets Symphony Gazetteer Management Solution
Aligned Assets have announced that Bath & North East Somerset Council have confirmed commitment to its Symphony Gazetteer Management System, to manage the council’s central property and street data. This will be accessible by all council systems and facilitate public service provision in line with the ODPM’s (Office of the Deputy Prime Minster) priority outcomes for e-government.
Having one master address list or Gazetteer maintained within a local authority saves the multitude of applications requiring an address, having to spend resources searching out address changes, additions and deletions. Instead, by taking a data feed from a master gazetteer, Local Authorities can have more confidence that the right customers are being served.
Being a Unitary Authority, Bath & North East Somerset Council has one team working within the Transportation and Highways department, which manages National Street Gazetteer (NSG), Associated Street Data (ASD) and the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG). In Bath the NSG and LLPG custodians work in the same room along with the Street Naming and Numbering Officer all of whom use the Symphony Gazetteer running on SQL.
So called ‘joined up’ or e-government is about delivering local government services by electronic means. This includes telephone, fax, and increasingly the Internet. It may be direct, or mediated through call centres or offices in which the operator has access to information electronically and can seek information or complete transactions on behalf of members of the public. Since most service requests from the public are linked to a property and the relationship a person has with that property it is clear that addressing is key to the process.
