How Local Authorities are Different
With Symphony SinglePoint, local authorities have two options. You can utilise it in the same way as everyone else and have access to the AddressBase products, or you can use it for access to your LLPG (Local Land and Property Gazetteer).
There are pros and cons to both: the LLPG will only cover the data within your administrative boundaries, yet will be as up to date as it is possible to be, since new data will be accessible almost as soon your create it, whilst the AddressBase products will contain the whole country's records so is ideal for the provision of 'out of area' data.
With Symphony SinglePoint though, there is no need to chose and through the use of adaptors, you can have the best of both worlds.
Corporate access to your LLPG
There are two main reasons why you need corporate access to your LLPG:
-
With public sector budgets being dramatically slashed, corporate access to your LLPG provides a quick, simple and very cost-effective solution to enable large savings in council expenditure.
-
Each local authority has spent considerable sums of money to create their LLPG and through corporate access you can start to see a real return on that investment.
How can SinglePoint LLPG help?
SinglePoint LLPG allows local authorities that currently hold numerous, disparate address databases to have all departments access their LLPG via easy to use and easy to set up web services.
The considerable savings are made through the removal of the excessive licensing costs that come from holding many separate datasets, with the reduction in the time it takes to manage one database as opposed to many leading to further cost savings.
Departments from customer services and education, through to waste management and revenues & benefits can all benefit from access to the council’s most definitive and accurate source of address data.
Instant access to the latest changes
In addition to the direct savings that will come from the removal of unnecessary licensing, by enabling all departments access to the LLPG as the single source of addresses, significant gains in efficiency will also be seen. Not only will the misidentification of properties between departments be a thing of the past, but all changes in the address data, such as new developments, will be instantly accessible to all.
This latter point becomes ever more critical when one considers that in some instances up to two thirds of a council’s net expenditure will be covered by council tax revenue. With the average council tax bill standing at over £1200, the ability to identify and invoice ALL new properties is clearly an advantage. Since it is a statutory requirement for all new properties to be entered into the LLPG, the advantages of linking to it are clearly evident.
Access to elements beyond the address
In addition to giving corporate access to address data, SinglePoint LLPG can be used to give access to much of the additional data that sits in the LLPG.
There are a number of ways to view the results once selected. As standard, the user will be shown the Mail Address along with the UPRN, USRN, Easting and Northing, all of which can be Copied and Pasted into other applications.

If the property has an Alternative Address then there is the option to show this also. This can be especially useful in properties that have a widely used name that differs from the postal address.

In addition to the Mail and Alternative Addresses, SinglePoint LLPG allows you to show the address in BS7666 format. If the address has more than one Logical Status, then this can also be shown.

The BLPU Classification can be shown to all users, which is useful for those departments that might only have need to reference commercial or residential properties e.g. NDR or CTAX.

Any Cross References associated with the address can be viewed by clicking on the Cross Reference tab. This option can be extended by converting the Cross References into hyperlinks into these other systems, thereby giving the user access to more information.

One of the most powerful functions within SinglePoint LLPG is the feedback option. This enables any user to email the LLPG Custodian with comments regarding an address. What this effectively means is that SinglePoint LLPG creates an entire organisation worth of eyes and ears looking out for LLPG accuracy.
