With the introduction of BS7666 came the standard by which all Property, Street and Address information would be created and managed. Within it was also a framework for associating Properties (BLPUs) with records in other systems, using cross references.
While cross references are useful by enabling linkages between disparate systems, they are also limited to only associating a reference number in one system with the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) in the NLPG/NAG.
The XDM allows for all property related data to be stored in the one system, not just linked to the property via a cross reference, but to actually sit there, in the database, alongside it.
The XDM enables an organisation to have a central store of information i.e. it brings previously disparate sources of information into one, accessible place.
The XDM makes it faster to access property related information.
Data can be related either directly to each UPRN or Spatially i.e for Boundary layers
The XDM gives the ability to derive data directly from GIS Layers, via the Management Console.
Time saving
Automated updates
Reduces errors
Gives consistency
of data
Allows queries from
a single source
A key benefit of the XDM is its customisability, giving the user:
The ability to define any type of data Category, allowing users to determine the name and data type of the columns in the XDM Category, including the ability to create columns based on lookup tables.
The ability to define the spatial datasets that are searched to create Xtended Data, and map which result fields will be inserted into the Xtended data schema.
The ability to automatically create and update Xtended data as the Property is updated, ensuring that the Xtended data fields are always up to date.
Do you have a question about the Xtended Data Module? If so, just ask...
