The BLPU Classifications within the BS7666 Standards enable a great level of property identification and some aspects of the Standards with regards BLPU Classifications are very comprehensive e.g. the distinction between a cattery and a kennal.
Other aspects however can be somewhat ambivilant and greater usage could be gained by understanding more about the specifics of that BLPU. This is most frequently apparent with Commercial Properties such as restaurants and shops.

The XDM can be used to add quaternary (4th) or even quinary (5th) levels of BLPU Classifications.
Some examples of additional BLPU Classifications include:
- Specify the type of restaurant e.g. fast food, eat in/take away, restaurant type (Italian, French etc)
- Specify the type of shop e.g. supermarket, garden centre, jewellers etc.
- Specify the size of shop e.g. large, medium, small
- Expand the details of properties with mixed use
e.g. commercial & residential
- Specify the type of farm e.g. cereal crops, dairy production etc
- Indicate the licensing type of the property
- Specify the type of recycling site e.g. commercial, public, type of waste accepted etc
- Specify the religious denomination of a place of worship
It would be possible for the user to establish their own conventions and standards of data entry, or the option remains for the use of free form notes field.
Much of this information will have considerable benefit to other council departments and since the information is directly linked to the address, it makes sense for it to be held alongside the LLPG.
