The National Address Gazetteer is the most significant event to occur in the world of address management since the Domesday Book. Are you ready for it?

What is the National Address Gazetteer?
The National Address Gazetteer will be a new source of gazetteer data that will be created by the Local Government Group and Ordnance Survey, who have formed a joint venture called GeoPlace for the ongoing maintenance of a single definitive national address and street database.
It will take form through the blending of three existing datasets – local government’s address and street gazetteers: the NLPG (National Land and Property Gazetteer) and the NSG (National Street Gazetteer), along with Ordnance Survey’s OS MasterMap® Address Layer 2. |

Understanding the implications of the National Address Gazetteer is essential for any business that currently works with or plans to work with the public sector.
Why is the National Address Gazetteer important?
Over the next few years, central and local government, the emergency services and potentially even the BBC will all be sourcing the address data they use from the National Address Gazetteer.
Every address they use will contain a Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN), which gives a method through which organisation can share data with another.
If you want to do business with the public sector then you need to understand the National Address Gazetteer.
