The National Street Gazetteer (NSG) is a database that holds information about all the streets in England and Wales. In addition to the name of the street it contains information such as its type, location and length. It is compiled from the Local Street Gazetteers (LSGs) that are created by each of the 172 Highway Authorities in England and Wales and is an essential tool in the managing of street works.
The information from the National Street Gazetteer forms the basis of the information within the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) as it is only from the core street information that property information can be placed.
The information within the National Street Gazetteer is used to plan streetworks and enables the minimising of disruption through the information being available from one, complete source.
The National Street Gazetteer is currently managed by private firm Intelligent Addressing on behalf of the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), which is a government organisation that coordinates and promotes good practice within local authorities.
The National Street Gazetteer can be created and maintained through Symphony iManage.
