From 12 November 2018, our augmented reality app, Symphony AR featuring Gazetteers @ GIS Day, will be available for all signatories of the Public Sector Mapping Agreement, ie local authorities and emergency services, to help promote address and street data.
Like last year, the app will be available on Android devices from the Google Play Store, and new for this year, you’ll be able to download the app onto iOS devices (iPhones) available from the Apple Store. This is great news as it means many more people will be able to have some fun with the app as a part of their Gazetteers @ GIS Day activities.
Once you have downloaded the app, you’ll be able to access AddressBase data visually and in augmented reality, which will really help to bring address and street data to life. This could mean seeing augmented reality markers illustrating business types, Tree Preservation Orders or flood risk areas, or they could be depicting hazards associated with a building such as petroleum or chemical hazards.
We are making the Symphony AR app featuring Gazetteers @ GIS Day available so you can bring a truly interactive quality to your Gazetteers @ GIS Day activities. Using the 3D model feature, you could take your colleagues on a virtual recce of any building, zooming in and panning round to specific points within the building. You could also encourage your colleagues to download the app and see how many markers they can identify as they take a short lunchtime walk in the local area. You can even demonstrate how the image recognition feature works by holding your phone in front of the Symphony AR leaflet or our augmented reality badge. If you’d like to order any of those materials, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
