The challenges of Ofwat’s PR19
With Ofwat’s PR19 exerting increased demands on the water companies to improve efficiency, deliver better services, lower bills and secure long-term resilience to droughts and floods, the pressure is most certainly on.
Under Ofwat’s PR19, water companies are being mandated to reduce household bills by an average of £50 per annum by 2025, while investing more into infrastructure and sustainability.
Add to that the challenges of market opening for business customers, it becomes increasingly clear the water companies will need to create efficiencies across the board, from back office administration and billing, to supply and maintenance.
Barriers to efficiency
One of the key causes of inefficiency that effects the whole utility is poor address data. According to the national addressing hub, GeoPlace, there are more than 2.5 million address changes made nationally every six weeks. It’s impractical for any water utility to keep abreast of such changes manually, but failing to do so comes at a cost.
