Bluelight is our AddressBase Premium gazetteer and forms the core of our solutions for sharing accurate and up-to-date addresses across an organisation and its systems. This is primarily used by public sector organisations such as emergency services and the health sector, as well as private organisations such as the energy and water utilities. It has the following features:
AddressBase Premium compatible
Bluelight uses the Ordnance Survey’s AddressBase Premium as its core dataset and can be scaled to either hold regional data or that for the whole of Great Britain, making the system fully British Standard BS7666 compliant. It can also update these addresses using Change Only Update (COU) files issued by the OS to keep track of the millions of address changes that occur each year across the country.
Simple and advanced searching
Bluelight has powerful and fast search facilities to enable a user to find a street or property. The search can be done in a single line or specified by address field. The search maximises the chance of finding a property by searching across every element of the address and enabling the use of wildcard characters and abbreviation substitution.
Data sharing
Both core data from the OS and any local data entered can be shared across the organisation’s staff and systems by using SinglePoint and iExchange.
Local property creation
Bluelight allows organisations to create their own local properties or land records when a location is of operational importance but is not stored in AddressBase Premium. The system ensures that this local data is fully BS7666 compliant and conforms to the AddressBase Premium standard. This helps ensure that this data is treated in the same fashion as the core data and can be shared and used by operational systems without modification.
Local street creation
In a similar fashion to local properties, Bluelight allows an organisation to create their own local streets, such as access routes, roads in a country park or private land. It can also be used to segment a long road into local sections. This enables greater accuracy in locating an incident and therefore mobilising emergency services to the correct location.
Application cross reference maintenance
Bluelight enables references to other systems to be made against a property by use of application cross references. Not only does it store those supplied by the OS, it enables the user to add their own, specific to their organisations operational systems. This can be created as an output from a matching exercise and can be used for sharing targeted changes to those operational systems.
Local data imports
Large volumes of local data can be added to the Bluelight gazetteer via means of the import facility. An example of this may be the national street junction data which is made up of hundreds of thousands of records.
