On 14 November 2018, we celebrated the Geoplace Gazetteers @ GIS Day internally and externally using augmented reality.
For our customers, we made our cutting-edge Symphony AR application available with a special feature for Gaz Day. This year we expanded our reach, so iOS (iPhone) users could download the app, as well as the usual Android users. Custodians all over GB could download the app for free and use it to demonstrate the value of address and street data in a visual format. George Caulfield from Kirklees Council said,
The app really helped bring a bit of wow factor to our Gaz Day event! It pulled relevant data from the gazetteer with AR markers cropping up in all the right places.
At the Aligned Assets office, we celebrated Gaz Day through an augmented reality bake off! Bakers and non-bakers alike, pulled together to deliver a table of tasty treats from cupcakes to shortbreads and savoury pasties – all topped with augmented reality markers that sprung into life when using the app. While we were celebrating all things addressy, we felt we should do something for those people who did not have their own address, and used the bake off as an opportunity to raise some money for local homeless charity, York Road Project. This valuable charity works hard to help beat homelessness in and around Woking, providing a holistic approach to assist clients with more than just a roof over their heads.
We’re delighted to report that the Gaz Day bake-off, together with a sweep stake event, raised £120 for York Road Project. In addition to that, the company matched what the team raised, plus a further donation was received, making a grand total of £300.
So well done team for taking part, thank you for matching the fundraising Aligned Assets, and thank you Gaz Day for providing the vehicle to celebrate what we do with addresses, while helping those without their own address.
