We are very excited to be working with the multi-award winning Woking Food and Drink Festival this year, delivering a fun and useful augmented reality smartphone app designed to enhance the experience of festival goers.
The festival is spread over three days, culminating a vast range of feasting opportunities, entertainment and family activities. To ensure festival goers don’t miss out on anything, they can download our specially developed Woking Food and Drink Festival augmented reality app, to keep abreast of what’s going on where.
Easy navigation
By using the app, visitors can see what’s on offer in relation to their surroundings, all at the simple click of a button. As you move your smartphone around you, animated signposts for festival zones will pop up over the real-life view on your screen, making the festival easy to navigate no matter your map reading skills! When you tap on the festival zone marker, a list of all the stall holders in the zone will drop down, then you can tap on each stallholder individually to see what they’re serving. And if you just want to find a specific style of food, eg vegan or Italian, you can set the filter on the app to show you just those stalls. You’ll also be able to use the app to check the schedules of activities taking place on the festival’s stages – so no need to miss your favourite band or chef presentation!
3D model & 2D maps
Easy and fun to use, the AR app will provide you with a 3D augmented reality model of the festival site, as well as panning out to see the wider location on a 2D map, with all the relevant signposts on view.
Augmented reality treasure hunt trail
For a fun way of meandering round the festival, visitors can use the app to follow a treasure hunt trail. As you reach the treasure, an animated coin will spring into the picture – just tap on it to collect. A limited number of prizes will be on offer each day for the first people to present their full augmented reality treasure chest.
‘We are very excited to be partnering with a local tech company to offer this whole new dimension to our festival goers. It will help visitors find all the things they want to see and do, as well as adding a bit of hi-tech fun with the treasure hunt,’ said Chris Norrington, Woking Borough Council’s Business Liaison Manager.
Dinesh Thanigasalam, Commercial Director of Aligned Assets commented, ‘This is a great opportunity to demonstrate how this cutting edge technology usually only used in gaming can be put to a practical use. As a local Woking company, we’re delighted to be involved in this project, helping to showcase this hugely successful event, as well as providing a fun navigation tool for the public.’
This specially developed Woking Food and Drink Festival app will be available to download free from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store in August (release date tbc).
The app can be used on most smart phones (minimum Android 5.0 and IOS 9) to access stallholder information, schedules of entertainment & activities, and a 2D map. Due to augmented reality being cutting-edge technology, it can only be facilitated on the more up-to-date and powerful smartphones ie Android minimum hardware: Camera, Compass, GPS and for Apple iPhone minimum hardware iPhone 4 / iPad 2).
